As GMSA continues to grow, the need for more
referees to work our games becomes even greater. It is important to us to
try to have a full referee crew working every GMSA game. But, based on the
number of referees that are currently available, it can be difficult to
accomplish this week after week...especially in the Fall, when we are competing
with many college games on weekends. Therefore, as a league, we want to
encourage any current player who may be interested to become
a referee. As such, if you are a current GMSA player who takes the
entry-level referee class, and works at least 10 matches for GMSA within a year
of becoming certified, we will offer you a gift certificate that you can put
toward referee gear (jerseys, shorts, socks, flags, whistles, etc.).
Refereeing has many benefits outside of GMSA as well:
You can work
matches around your schedule, as many or as few as you like (any availability that you
can give is always appreciated.)
The extra "spending
money" that you make is always a nice benefit...once you are licensed,
you can work as a referee in any local league and/or tournaments. During
some weekend tournaments, you can make $150-200 or more over a couple of days.
Referee fees vary by tournament and by age group. In GMSA, the center referee makes
$60 per game; assistant referees make $35 per
game.
Your start-up costs are the class itself, uniforms,
whistles, flags, and a card/book set, the cost of which is usually recouped
after only a few games. So if you think you might want to give it
a shot, let us know! Please visit the West Tennessee Soccer Referee Association
homepage: http://www.wtsra.cc
- then click on the "Instruction" link. You can also get a list of up-coming certification classes
across the state on the
Soccer Officials
Of Tennessee webpage. If you are already certified
and are at least 18 years of age, please contact our assignors Mike Mears & Mark
Herrington at:

started.
